News Release

Santa Clara, CA July 15, 2000 - Adapters.com today announced support for Tektronix's TLA 700 series Logic Analyzers by starting a product line which directly interfaces to the high density, high speed, high signal integrity probes of these test instruments.

"Engineers have to test and debug high pin count devices by using Logic Analyzers, and these days we are talking about up to one thousand signals", commented Gabor Kardos, the founder of Adapters.com. "When I was an engineer and invented the first logic analyzer interface, the so called Bug Catcher, I had to deal with 64 signals at the most. Those days are over", he continued.

The first of these "Bug Catchers" are designed for high pin count 1.27mm and 1.0mm pitch BGA devices. They are general purpose in nature, which support 256 pin (20x20 grid), 352 pin (26x26 grid), 432 pin (31x31 grid), 520 pin (31x31 grid), 560 pin (33x33 grid), 560 pin (39x39 1.0mm grid), and 600 pin (35x35 grid) packages.

These adapters are modular. A BGA package emulator unit solders directly to the target board, just as the BGA package itself would, but it has interface connections to a probe board, where the high density Mictor connectors reside for the logic analyzer probes. The logic analyzer interface is completed with either a high quality "zero insertion force" (ZIF) socket on the top or a surface mountable grid adapter that allows you to plug the device under test into the probe board with out using an expensive socket.

These adapters are designed using controlled impedance PCBs to match the impedance characteristics of the TLA 700 Series probes. The product line is continuously expanded to support specific devices, or other BGA, PQFP and other package types.

Availability and Pricing

These adapters are immediately available in the seven above-mentioned configurations, but Adapters.com will provide custom designs to fit these adapters to any application. Prices start at around $1000 for these adapters. Other pin counts and or package types prices may vary, according to their complexity.
