SUNNYVALE, California, May 5, 1999 - Adapters.com today announced a new line of flex-cables. These flex-cables are high-speed, low impedance solutions. The Flex-cables are designed to compliment the already popular PolyPod products by allowing emulator and test equipment extensions directly from the PolyPod base. The flex-cable can also be configured as an emulator adapter, a logic analyzer adapter.

(Note: The PolyPod surface mountable adapters allow the designers to perform multiple types of test setups from logic analysis to in-circuit emulation, and can even ship the product with the actual chip installed without additional soldering or de-soldering.)

"The PolyPod adapter line is fast becoming an industry standard, replacing older, less flexible products on the market," commented Gabor Kardos, the half-crazy president of Adapters.com. "The new flexible cables that we have developed are designed to allow engineers to extend testing from the target to the emulator. It is not always convenient to have the emulator, logic analyzer or other test equipment on top of the unit under test. Conventional cables don't work because of impedance, speed or cross-talk issues."

The extension cables are essential in an environment, where access to the target device is limited due to space restrictions, like computer chassis, car diagnostic systems, and embedded applications, such as disk drives, and other systems.

These flex circuit cables are designed to handle very high speeds 100 Mhz +, using controlled impedance technology, that is transmission line characteristics to reduce signal distortions, capacitive or inductive loading, and crosstalk. Instrument manufacturers, such as an emulator and logic analyzer makers are adapting our standard interface, which allows them to connect to the target either directly or through our extension cables.

The adapter line from Adapters.com introduces a compact design and an added flexibility to the present approaches. When using the older technologies, the user is forced to de-solder the surface mounted adapter from the target board if they want to avoid any extra parasitic loading, and run the system with an actual IC at full speed. Now clock rates are commonly over 50 MHz and any additional loading can kill the system.

The adapter line provides all the necessary hardware that interfaces the PolyPod to emulators, logic analyzers and other test instruments. Modular design allows fast and convenient changes in a test setup. High precision guide pins, and rugged connectors ensure reliable connections. Optional fasteners help to create an assembly that will withstand demanding environments, such as vibration in automotive environments. Now with the flex circuit extension cables these instruments can be conveniently connected where it was close to impossible before.
